The House
Go in through the porch to the wide hall where Parquet flooring, antique rugs and impressive artworks tell you of the exquisite interiors at this enormous holiday house. To the left a book-lined corridor leads to a sitting room and the drawing room; gather for cocktails, spill out onto the terrace when it’s warm; spend cosy winter evenings in front of the fire, playing games, sharing stories.
Straight ahead in the hall is the garden room, to the right is the kitchen, a huge, sociable space where hefty oak timbers soar to the roof; there are sofas to one end, and in the middle a chunky dining table sets the scene for a lavish celebration feast.
Continue to a utility/boot room and laundry room and through a rear hall to the movie room, where original film posters adorn the walls. A further hall leads to another kitchen/family room - this end of the house is great for a family to have their own space. Â
Stairs from the main hall take you to a Minstrel’s Gallery and Bedrooms 1 -3; Bedroom 1 can sleep 2 extra guests in the dressing room (extra charge – see Extras). From the Movie Room stairs lead to Bedrooms 4 and 5; Bedroom 4 has a dressing room with 2 single beds, Bedroom 5 sleeps 4, so these make great family rooms. Bedrooms 6 and 7 are above the kitchen/family room, Bedroom 8 is on the ground floor next to this. 2 extra guests can sleep on a sofa bed on the galleried landing by Bedroom 6 (extra charge – see Extras).
At the back of the house, there’s a terrace leading onto lawns, a leafy gazebo, an ornamental pond and huge grounds that slope gently down to a pond where ducks dabble. In the summer, mown paths meander through the grass, forever in your sight is the beautiful Chalke Valley countryside.
The pool is at the front of the house in a Mediterranean style courtyard; the adjoining games room has a bar, pool table, table tennis and table football. This really is a house for all ages and all seasons, a place to dream, a place to make memories.
