Holemoor Grange is hidden away on a small country estate out round quiet lanes in South Somerset. It’s a lovely little corner of the world where you’re guaranteed bounteous fresh air and breath taking unspoilt views across the fields and hills. 4 en suite bedrooms sleep 12 people (room for one more at an extra charge), there’s a huge open plan living space with a very stylish kitchen at one end and an inviting lounge area at the other. In the middle are a big dining table to seat all and a pool table – so a very sociable space for all kinds of large group stays. The kooky topsy-turvy design means the living space is upstairs to take full advantage of those enticing views. Out on the patio is a swim spa, and for year round use, a BBQ lodge.
You can stride out into the countryside right from the doorstep; stroll up the hill to the village for your morning newspaper, pick up a footpath through the fields for unadulterated peace and quiet; beautiful rolling hills and vast skies all around. If you need essentials pop into Chard where you’ll find supermarkets, or to Ilminster, a very friendly little market town that’s nice for a browse. Get a big slice of rural life at Perry’s Cider where there’s a museum, shop and tea room, soak up the glorious history and amble round the gardens at Forde Abbey, Barrington Court and Montacute House.
Pootle over to the beaches on the Jurassic Coast, spend the day in Lyme Regis where you can visit the Marine Aquarium or Dinosaurland Fossil Museum; play crazy golf in the town gardens, head out to see on a mackerel fishing trip. Have a fossil hunt at Charmouth, a prehistoric adventure at Seaton Jurassic or hire a self drive boat at Beer. Take a trip to Wells to see the magnificent cathedral, the Bishops Palace, and Vicar’s Close, the only complete medieval street in the country.
Put your exploring hats on and head out to the enchanting Someset Levels. Take your binoculars and stop off at one of the tranquil nature reserves – Shapwick Heath or Westhay Moor; climb to the top of Burrow Mump or mystical Glastonbury Tor. Closer to home you can discover tracks and trails at Castle Neroche, Ham Hill Country Park and Otterhead Lakes. Cyclists can pick up the Chard To Ilminster Cycling Route just down the road, shopaholics will get their fill at Clark’s Village, and for something different we’d recommend a visit to Haynes Motor Museum, Fleet Air Arm Museum, or a guided tour with the South West Deer Rescue and Study Centre.
Make time for lunch or dinner at a cosy country pub; the Five Dials is good (and within walking distance), as is the Cotley Inn, The George at Donyatt and The Haymaker. If you’d prefer a restaurant you should try Todays Menu in Ilminster or The Tytherleigh Arms just a few miles away. Another option is to hire professional caterers to come and cook for you, something that’s popular for those special occasions – big birthdays, anniversaries and the like. See our Extras page for more information. Wherever you go, whatever you do, you’ll have a wonderful time when you come and unwind at Holemoor Grange. Check availability and book today!
