Lodge Holidays in Wellington
Wellington is a small Somerset town, 7 miles south-west of Taunton on the edge of the Blackdown Hills, which provide a picturesque setting for a riding, cycling or walking self-catering holiday.
The town itself enjoys regular farmersβ markets, where a variety of local produce can be bought. Wellington Park was designed by the noted German architect F.W. Meyer and has an ornamental fountain and recently restored Victorian features. The 53 metre Wellington Monument sits on the highest point of the Blackdown Hills and the fine views from the monument extend across the Bristol Channel and Exmoor.
Golf is available at a number of nearby golf courses, such as the Oake Manor Golf Course, as well as fly fishing at the Hawkridge Reservoir and course fishing at Durleigh Reservoir, makingΒ Wellington aΒ good destination Activity Short Break holiday let.
Exmoor is just 14 miles away, with its atmospheric heathland and indigenous wild Exmoor Ponies, while theΒ moorland and woodland of The Quantocks are also only 10 miles from Wellington. Both areas are ideal for scenic riding, hiking and cycling. The 18th century poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, lived for a time on the edge of the Quantocks at Nether Stowey, and the 36 mile Coleridge Way walk is a treat for those seeking a rewarding Culture and History Short Break.
